This series consists of residential housing surveys. The records provide information on agency employees' family housing located at Tama and Toledo, IA; Strongs, MI; Cass Lake, Cloquet, Fairlands, Grand Portage, Naytaywaush, Nett Lake, Onigum, Ponsford, Red Lake, and White Earth Indian Reservation, MN; Pipestone Indian School; Lower Sioux Indian Community at Morton, MN; and Hayward, Keshena, Lac du Flambeau, Neopit, New Post, Tomah, and Wabeno, WI. The surveys, submitted on forms, include photographs of the buildings, floor plans, and lists of property. The surveys include descriptions of the buildings providing information on the types of construction; the sizes of the rooms; the types of building materials; the sources of heat, light, and water; the locations of the buildings; and the furnishings provided. The surveys also include details on the buildings' proximity to roads, towns, schools, doctors, hospitals, and telephone service. The records include related memorandums.

Pipestone Indian Industrial Training School

Established in 1893, the Pipestone Indian School was built on land taken from the Yankton reservation at the Pipestone Quarry. The Yankton people long contested that loss and won before the Supreme Court in 1926. In 1894 the formation of the Pipestone Indian Training School was authorized on the uninhabited Yankton Pipestone reservation.
